The decision is made

Woohoo, after much deliberation and discussion we have finally made the decision to go ahead and make some serious plans to take some time off and tour around America.  Yesterday we went in and saw a friend who has travelled a lot in America and Canada to pick his brains about getting hold of a fifth wheel and buying a truck to tow it.  Mark suggested that as being a huge nightmare that we probably don't want at the other end. He pretty much talked us into the idea of a motorhome and hiring a smaller car locally if we want to base the motor home somewhere and take side trips.  What he said made a lot of sense to us and so we trundled home and checked out some websites and started comparing rental rates and motorhome floorplans.  My god, what a selection and a half of these.

We have found out that because we are looking at going for more than 90 days we need to get visas to enter the States.  That will mean Andy and I will have to front up at the US Embassy in Auckland for an interview and prove to them that we will come home.

At this stage our ideal is to start in Los Angeles and head north up the Pacific Coast all the way to Seattle then head across the top of the US over to New York.  A trip down the East Coast to the warmer climates and then across the bottom back to Los Angeles and then home.  I guess these plans may and will change as we do more research and come to terms with the driving involved and how the boys adapt to being on the road.

It is a very exciting time and the boys haven't stopped talking about different things, come to think of it we haven't either.  We have started compiling a list of things to be done and investigated before we start booking things.  Number one on the list for me is to get a new passport under way because mine expires in June 06.  Man, I hope the zit that is building on my lip goes before I get the photo taken.
