Into the Heat

OK, now our adventure seems a bit more real now we are really on our way and out of the built up areas.  Our first stop is Cabazon just out of Palm Springs where there are about 150 big name outlet shops.  We couldn't believe the heat when we got out of the car.  We wandered around the shops for about 3hours spending way more time in the stores in their air conditioning than actually walking the pavements.  When we got back to the car, the water bottle I had was full of hot water - it was too hot to drink!

Off we go to Palm Desert which is just east of Palm Springs.  The drive through here was amazing, mountains rising up and very brown barren landscape.  We took about 1.5hours to drive there and the boys sat there the whole time just looking out the windows - unheard of.  Oh my goodness we heard the radio on the way through the temperature is 102F, 38C.  We hear it is a dry heat which makes it easier to handle - guess what - don't believe that!  It is still unbearable unless you are in airconditioning.  We thought we were doing OK in our room until we decided to go for a swim and walked out the door.  It felt immediately as if someone had just opened the oven door.  The pool was so warm that even I was thinking it was too warm and could do with cooling down.  When we went to towel off it was as if the towels had just come out of the drier.

Sorry lots of talk about the weather but it is a big part of what we are doing here.
